Dermal Fillers – What Are They?

I haven’t updated the blog for a awhile so I thought it worthwhile to give a brief overview of fillers again. Some of the following content is from channel4.com.

Skin starts to sag and wrinkle naturally with age, as underlying fat and collagen diminishes. Injecting dermal fillers into the skin plumps it up, makes it firmer and smoothes out lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers, for example Restylane, may be based on hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance widely used in medicine. Other types are made with collagen, produced from cows’ skin. Newer types of filler with other ingredients claim to have a longer lasting effect, but aren’t widely available.

Frequently used to fill out the lips, dermal fillers are also highly successful in reducing crows’ feet, wrinkles around the lips, nose and mouth, and lines on the cheeks and forehead. They can also plump out hollow cheeks, reshape the chin or nose tip, or fill acne scars.

Fillers can’t alter the actual size of the nose.

As with any cosmetic treatment, you should consult a qualified practitioner before deciding to go ahead.

Around 3% of people are allergic to bovine collagenAround 3% of people are allergic to bovine collagen, so a skin test is always given to patients being treated with collagen-based fillers if that type is chosen. The good news is that there are lots of fillers available and your practitioner will be able to advise the most appropriate for you.

Before treatment itself begins, the face is sometimes numbed with a local anaesthetic cream or injection. Fillers are applied under the skin with a series of injections – a mildly uncomfortable process, with injections close to the lip or nose the most likely to be painful.

Treatment takes up to one hour, and many people go straight back to normal daily life afterwards, although if a large area is treated it can take a few hours or even a day or two to recover. There may be slight bleeding where the needle was inserted, plus mild bruising or redness which will disappear in a few days. Repeat treatments are needed every six to nine months to maintain the appearance.

And it’s  usual for clients to be on the phone, or email, expressing how delighted and more confident they feel.

Over 40 and Fabulous

Supermodel Cindy Crawford, 44, seems to drink from the fountain of eternal youth.

Known for her trademark mole above her lip, Crawford was named 3rd on VH1′s 40 Hottest Hotties of the 90s.
But not all of Crawford’s youthful glow is natural. She has admitted to regularly receiving certain cosmetic procedures, including Botox, collagen, and vitamin injections. She first saw a plastic surgeon at the age of 29.
After turning 40, Crawford said in an
interview:
“When I was 23, other women could look at
me and say, ‘Well, she’s never had kids.’
But now I have and I know what it’s like to
have to lose baby weight.”

Men look to Botox & Dermal Fillers to Stay Looking Young

The buzz about metrosexuals may have died down, but men’s desire to look good certainly hasn’t. These days, many are turning to Botox & dermal fillers to smooth out frown lines and forehead creases. Dr. Michael Stanford, said the percentage of his Botox clients who are men has grown from just a handful five years ago to about 10 percent. Reasons range from a greater acceptance of the procedure to a high divorce rate, which thrusts men back into the dating scene, he says. Younger guys do it for prevention.

Most men prefer to keep their anti-aging methods quiet. Not ‘John’, a commercial estate agent and owner of a leisure retail outlet. After getting Botox injections last month, he sent an e-mail about it to friends, colleagues and members of his local business federation.

“I am going out on a limb here and announcing I recently had a Botox procedure,” he wrote. “A lot of my close friends did notice that I was a little less ugly.” The response was huge. Some said they had noticed something different, but thought he had lost weight or even grown taller. John, 51, said he looks five to 10 years younger.

A few weeks later, here’s what he had to say about it.

Q: Why Botox?

A: I’m 51 and still a bachelor. I felt like I was actually starting to look old. I think I sort of coasted through my 40s, thinking I wasn’t getting old. Then I hit 50 and my skin had sagged.

Q: What made you go public about it? A: I didn’t have any qualms about dying my hair, and I don’t have any qualms about doing Botox, mostly because it really, really works. I don’t closely examine myself, like women. But when I looked into the mirror and saw a great-great-great-uncle with one-quarter-inch waves on my forehead, it was like, “Wow. Someone is going to look at that and say I’m an old fart.”

Juvederm Ultra Dermal Filler

One of the latest dermal fillers to hit the market is called Juvederm Ultra.

It’s produced by the makers of Botox, Allergan, and is being promoted heavily. You may have seen the ads in Sunday newspaper supplements, or even on the TV- a first as far as I’m aware and indicative of the popularity of fillers and botox!

So what’s so special about this one? Well, in a nutshell, it not only fills but it has a built-in anasthesia so it should make the entire experience more pleasureable for the client.

More information, and this product, is available from www.dermalclinic.co.uk.

Women’s Fears

According to a recent poll carried put by Olay Regenerist women start to obsess with the signs of ageing at the age of 28.
Women listed their biggest fears as:-

  1. Wrinkles
  2. Hair loss
  3. Going grey
  4. Developing crow’s feet

The majority of women asked in the poll said they’d spend as much money ‘as necessary’ to keep their skin looking young.

One wrinkle-reduction treatment offered by DermalClinic is Evolence which is collagen-based and longer lasting than some others available. They can be contacted through their website – http://www.dermalclinic.co.uk/dermal-fillers-scotland.html.

Which Fillers for You?

There are several types of dermal filler and they all have different qualities.

It’s not my role to say if any filler is better than any other as each individually suits different people.

However, it would be true to say that some last longer than others, and some feel firmer than others- and subsequently have longer lasting effects.Dermal Fillers Scotland

Be sure to ask your practitioner about the different types! Restylane, Laresse, Evolence, Beletero, Radiesse, Juvoderm are all common fillers and can all be found at http://www.dermalclinic.co.uk/dermal-fillers-scotland.html

The age, depth and size of a wrinkle could all help determine which product may be suitable- as well as your pocket, as they may vary in price!

I also aim to help people choose qualified practitioners such as www.dermalclinic.co.uk. I will make recommendations for both product and services and pass comment on related topics.

More information on it’s way soon!
